aphex twin's first video since 1999 was made by his favourite 12-year-old youtuber
The kid, Ryan Wyer, has been making his fan videos to Richard D. James' songs since he was 10.
The last time we saw a video from Aphex Twin, it wasn't even the new millennium. He and video artist Chris Cunningham had cooked up the classic, eerie Window Licker visual. Soon after, Richard D. James disappeared — at least under the Aphex Twin moniker. He returned in 2014, with the Syro LP, and now has an new EP to come. Cheetah was announced, charmingly, via an old-school flyer drop at record stores.
A music video promoting the album has been release, Aphex Twin's first in a long, long while. The credit for CIRKLON3, "Directed by Ryan Wyer, aged 12, of Rush, County Dublin." Ryan is indeed a real kid, who has been making fan videos to a tonne of Aphex Twin tracks (and whatever other edm he's feeling) since he was 10. According to his team, James found the videos on Youtube and really enjoyed them, so he let the kid make the official thing.
CIRKLON3 [Колхозная mix] which comes off AT's forthcoming EP Cheetah, due July 8 on WARP.
