Born in Bordeaux, Olivier Rousteing studied fashion at the ESMOD in Paris. After graduating in 2003, he began working for Roberto Cavalli and so relocated to Italy. After working for Cavalli for five years, Olivier worked his way to becoming Head of Design for both the men’s and women’s collections. In 2009 Olivier moved back to Paris to join Balmain as an assistant to Christophe Decarnin. In 2011, Olivier became creative director for the brand and still is to this day. Although some questioned his appointed position, Olivier has directed the label more towards the finer aspects of French couture and is credited with re-energising the house and for adding an Asian influence to the clothing.
