“Fashion is about attitude not hemlines,” that’s what Helmut Lang said in i-D’s The Smart Issue, 1993. Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida took it to the extreme with really frayed hemlines, really 90s young, wild and free attitudes and real girls they see on the streets. While their aesthetic evokes raw effortlessness, the duo’s technical sensibilities are revealed in the construction of each piece.  Cutting their teeth at Vivienne Westwood and Preen respectively, Marques and Almeida took the natural course of combining talents while on the MA at Central Saint Martins – hitting the mark between impulse and consideration. Marques’Almeida showed their first two seasons with Fashion East before making their official London Fashion Week debut with their autumn/winter 12 collection and the Portuguese pair have been cladding girls in white platforms, ripped jeans and clingy lilac chiffon ever since.
