If Walter Van Beirendonck were a band, it would play a fusion of punk, folk, trash, pop, techno and chamber music. One of Belgium’s most prolific fashion designers, Walter places his sense of humour to the fore of his creations in an approach that humanizes the sexuality that is often woven into his garments as patterns and graphics. Known as one of the Antwerp 6 - alongside Dries van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Dirk Bikkembergs, Dirk van Saene and Marina Lee – the knitwear fanatic, graduated from the Royal Arts Academy in Antwerp (where he is now Head of the Fashion Department) in 1980. If he wasn’t a designer, Walter would spend his time working with animals and flowers. He likes his authentic Belgian food, having a beard, and the colour red. Walter could be described as the industry’s blue-sky thinker, for both his visionary perspective, and his constantly optimistic outlook.

Career highlight?Putting together all the looks (from more than 30 years of collections) for my retrospective was really a fascinating experience, and I'm really proud on the recognizable signature that keeps all the looks together.
