Born in Long Island, New York, Steven Meisel grew up obsessed with Manhattan’s high-class society girls. Soon he became a part of their world, studying at Parsons School of Design and scoring a dream job of Illustrator at Women’s Wear Daily in the early 80s, where he first picked up a camera. He became famous for shooting Madonna for the cover of her 1984 album Like A Virgin, and infamous for her 1992 NSFW book Sex. Working with the supers when they were mere new faces - Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell - the images he produced came to define the supermodel era. Steven’s commitment to Vogue Italia resulted in him shooting every cover for the magazine for over two decades. Constantly imagining and reimagining the looks of the moment, Steven continues to contribute to international publications. He’s never afraid to cause controversy, challenge the norm or speak out, and that’s why he’s still at the top his game.
