Dutch photographers Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin met in 1986. After graduating from the Art Academy in Amsterdam, they launched their international careers with ten pages in The Face in 1994 in a shoot that typified their hyper-realistic style. Now, 20 years later, with campaigns for fashion houses such as Chanel, Chloé, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Yves Saint Laurent, and regular stories in W, Vogue, Paris Vogue and The New York Times, Inez and Vinoodh are amongst the most important photographers in the world today. The team has lived and worked in New York since 1995, snapping Björk, Stefano Pilati with Naomi Campbell, and Daria Werbowy for the cover of i-D. Inez and Vinoodh collaborated with the French graphic design team M/M (Paris) to present mixed-media pieces, videos and photographs entitled Pretty Much Everything: Photographs 1985-2010, exhibited in Amsterdam’s Foam gallery. The pair recently made the music video for Lady Gaga’s Applause (the one with the mermaid shell bra and Madhatter’s hat).
