Japanese designer Chitose Abe spent 8 years learning from the masters over at Comme des Garçons before launching her own brand, Sacai, in 1999. Chitose describes her designs as ‘innovative and experimental’ and her trademark is contrasting textures paired with the knitwear that sparked her initial success - think cardigans with argyle peplums and zebra print sweaters with shaggy collars. Sacai’s collaboration with Moncler saw their puffy ski jackets turned in to piles of frills and ruffles, maybe not totally practical for skiing but who needs function when you can hit the slopes in a wide sleeved cape or a jacket with an in built Victorian neck ruffle? If you like mixing lace and tartan or blazers and jogging bottoms then Sacai is the chic style statement you should be making.
