With his own Milan-based label, a host of celebrity clients and a stint as an MTV presenter, Neil Barrett has travelled far from his Devonshire roots. Known for clothes that focus on detail and cut, his approach is underpinned by an extensive knowledge of fabric production, which he employs to rejuvenate classic designs. With subdued colours and restrained tailoring, Neil’s menswear range is avowedly masculine. Born in 1965, Neil graduated in 1986 from Central Saint Martins and received an MA from the Royal College of Art in 1989. Within a year he was made senior menswear designer at Gucci. His success at Gucci meant he was able to approach Prada with a proposal for a menswear line where he stayed until 1998 when he launched his first self-named menswear line. The next few years saw Neil sign a footwear deal with Puma, design the Italian football team kit which they won wearing in 2006 and provide the wardrobes for Spiderman 2 and 3, I, Robot and Brad Pitt in Mr and Mrs Smith. His A-list group of actors and musicians continues to grow from Tokyo, Seoul to West Coast Hollywood. Fans of Neil (they are many in number) love his sportswear bias and technologic wizardry.
