Ellen von Unwerth was born in Frankfurt in 1954. She started her career as a model before becoming a photographer in 1986. Ellen has since established herself as one of the most prominent female fashion photographers and directors working today. Her photographs focus on the erotic and feminine and lend themselves perfectly to fashion photography. Ellen’s work has been exhibited all over the world and appeared in Vogue, W, Interview and The Face. A regular contributor to i-D, Ellen has shot over ten covers including Kylie Minogue, Bjork, Drew Barrymore, Courtney Love and Victoria Beckham. She has also directed short films for Azzedine Alaïa and Katherine Hammet, and music videos for Duran Duran, Salt’n’Pepa and Christina Aguilera. If she wasn’t a photographer, Ellen thinks she would be a circus director.
