  • What items are a must for your kit?

"I am known for carrying a very small make-up kit. When going to a shoot I can carry everything I need in two holdalls. I carry a sheer foundation and a full cover foundation in a maximum of six or seven shades. A few compact powders and lots of lipsticks and eye shadows. When I walk into the studio and photographers see me for the first time, they often look at me in shock like, 'has he lost his luggage or something?!'"

  • Brightly coloured eye shadow is a tricky look to pull off, how do you recommend i-D’s readers choose the right colour that works for them?

"It’s tricky to give concrete make-up tips to fit everybody. everybody has a different approach and a different face. But if you go for colours, you shouldn’t be afraid to play them up. I always use black in make-up because it helps shape the eye. Think of it like a cartoon. A cartoon is always outlined in black."

  • Do you believe beauty comes from within first?

"Oh, absolutely. It’s the total package. It’s how you feel, it’s what you eat, its what you drink and it’s also whatever products you can use to help out, internally and externally."

  • What colour is a no go for eyes?

"You can pretty much make everything work. Depending on your mood and skin complexion. But it’s important to remember that what is great for you might not be great for your neighbour. There are thousands and thousands of colours, in matte, shiny, gloss and sheer to play around with."

  • what fashion and beauty blogs do you read?

"I love Lisa Eldridge’s blog. She’s really straightforward in the way she applies products and she looks great in whatever she uses. She’s very approachable and she makes it look easy to look pretty. Today, thanks to beauty blogs I can get feedback straight from the street."
