to have and to hold these wedding dresses would be the dream

I'm getting married in the morning, ding dong the bells are gonna chime. With flowers in the breeze, if I wear one of these, I know that I'll look fine. With The V&A's Wedding Dresses exhibition now open, we explore the collection and rediscover the most beautiful bridal gowns to grace the face of the wedding world.

  • bird of paradise

When Queen of glamour Dita Von Teese married Marilyn Manson in 2005, she did it wearing this beautiful bird of paradise dress by Vivienne Westwood. With a Stephen Jones tricorn hat on her head, she married her gothic groom in an imposing Irish castle full of dark roses. Theirs was the original red wedding... minus the actual death.

"Think what that money could bring, I'd buy everything. Clean out Vivienne Westwood in my Galliano gown." She aint no Hollaback Girl, she's a Harajuku Girl through and through but she does't half love her European designers. When Gwen Stefani got hitched to Gavin Rossdale back in 2002, she wore this romantic dip-dyed Dior gown by Galliano.

Pam Hogg was responsible for the tulle and silk creation chosen by Mary Charteris for her rock 'n' roll wedding to Big Pink frontman, Robbie Furze. Complete with sheer cutaway panels, the swan lake style dress wowed the crowd at her father's estate.
