mcqueen goes where the wild things are...

The wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws! Sarah Burton's autumn/winter 14 Alexander McQueen collection took us deep into the marshes where the ground was mossy, the light was dusky and the creatures were wild... It was the dark side of a child's fairytale - the haunted woods in Snow White, the glowing, green tower in Sleeping Beauty or the melancholy implications of Where The Wild Things Are - innocence always comes hand in hand with something beastly because, inside all of us is... A Wild Thing. Let the wild rumpus start!

  • max

Little Max was the red-headed boy who was lonely at home. His mum was too busy and his sister was too busy and he just wanted to be where someone loved him best of all. So he put on his wolf suit and crown, picked up his sadness shield and ran away to became king of all the wild things.

  • carol

Giant, fluffy and friendly, Carol loves KW and is the king's favourite (although kings shouldn't have favourites), but when you look into his black-feathered eyes you can see he's got a nasty temper and will hurt anyone who gets in his way of building a place where only the things you want to happen, would happen.

  • kw

KW is the loner of the group. She brushes off Carol's affections, preferring to hang out with Bob and Terry, the pale twins who don't talk to the rest of the group. She loves Max though and shows her ferocious side when he tries to leave, “Oh, please don't go—we'll eat you up—we love you so!”

  • douglas

Douglas is the beautifully feathered, white bird who is Carol's most trusted ally. Innocent and lovely he remains positive even when he becomes the subject of his best friends anger and asks Max naively "Will you keep out all the sadness?"

  • judith

Judith is kind of a downer to the rest of the group, but probably the wisest. She sees right through the king, threatens to eat him and says wise things like "happiness isn't always the best way to be happy," which Max doesn't really understand.

  • ira

Ira's fur is dark and his face serene, he's slow-witted but goodhearted and just likes to put holes in trees.

  • alexander

Alexander is the giant, lanky, white goat who no one ever listens too. He's the butt of everyone's jokes and has self-esteem issues but they all take notice when he finally asks Max, "you're not really a king, are you?"

  • the bull

The bull is a huge, scary beast with horns. He doesn't talk much but takes in all the madness surrounding him from the other wild things. "When you go home, will you say good things about us?" he asks. Yes McQueen, we have only good things to say sbout you.
