Through her blog Style Bubble, Susie Lau invites us to explore her virtual wardrobe every single day. Here, we climb over neatly piled mountains and enter her real life rainbow of a wardrobe.
Susie Lau started her blog Style Bubble in 2006. Since then she has, in many respects, taken over the world. The first generation Y fashion blogger, a self-starter and selfie-starter, The Bubble brought personal style to a global .com audience and inspired a worldwide digital democracy. "Everything is for every occasion. I'm the sort of weirdo who dresses down for parties, but then dresses up to go to Tesco's"
Is your wardrobe organised?
I had good intentions. It was loosely organised when I had my open-wardrobe (Ikea Stolmen, best system ever) installed – vintage tops and dresses in one section, special "fancy" dresses in another, knits all together, skirts hanging together, jackets. But gradually everything just blurred together and fell on top of each other in one big heap.
Do you remember the first item of clothing you bought with your own money?
An MA1 style bomber jacket with an orange lining from Camden Market. Everyone had one when I was in year six.
Do you have any outfits/ items “for special occasions only”?
Everything is for every occasion. I'm the sort of weirdo who dresses down for parties, but then dresses up to go to Tesco’s.
What’s your favourite pair of shoes in your wardrobe?
A little on the obvious side, but I did a pair of shoes with Six London (they do the shoes for Opening Ceremony). They're the kind of shoes that probably only I would wear: big giant neon platform heel, lilac pony-skin and clown-like proportions.
What's your favourite bag in your wardrobe?
A Miu Miu bag that my boyfriend gave me for my birthday a few years ago. Miu Miu can buy love… I think.
If you could swap wardrobes with anyone in the world, who would it be?
Rei Shito, the street style photographer from Tokyo. She has a really cool and unexpected style. Except I'd have to size everything up, as she's super petite.
What’s on your wish list from the spring/summer 14 shows?
Basically Prada and Miu Miu might bankrupt me next season. Christopher Kane, Sacai and Jonathan Saunders are also on my list.
What's your most expensive item?
A Comme des Garçons jacket from the BIG autumn/winter 12 collection.
What's your cheapest chicest item?
A £5 second-hand Comme des Garçons jumper from Tokyo.
Have you ever dreamed about your wardrobe/clothes?
I've had nightmares about sample sales.
What's your favourite item that you've been given?
A really beautiful Meadham Kirchhoff tucked and twisted chiffon dress.
