model monday

With her black hair and black eyes, Xiao Wen Ju is the 24 year old, 21st Century Audrey Hepburn from the Chinese metropolis, Xi'an in Shaanxi province. With the face of a manga heroin and a personality that would make even the meanest of girls want to be her friend, Xiao Wen is signed to IMG, has fronted campaigns for Kenzo, Marc Jacobs and Dior, walked in shows from J.W. Anderson to Chanel to Moschino and starred on the cover of The Time is Now Issue of i-D. We want to be best friends forever with jujujuxiaowen!

How were you discovered?
I was found on the street, people asked me to be a model then I took part in a model competition. Beijing was my first place, then I stayed in Hong Kong for six months and now I’m a professional model in NYC.
Why do you like New York?
I can stay there easily and I can feel the freedom to do whatever I wanna do! I like walking when the weather is nice, there are lots of interesting things happening on the street. Also there are so many different foods – Japanese is the best I think, haha ;)
What was it like growing up in Beijing?
It’s modern and China is changing – more nice buildings are going up, more events are happening, there’s more shopping malls, and more people enjoying life. When I was younger I was in school but I didn’t like studying at all, I was always listening to my favourite singers, watching movies and ‘fighting’ with my parents!
What would you be doing if you weren’t a model?
Working in a hotel, I find it very interesting to see how they work!
What do you do for fun, when you’re not working?
Watch movies.
What are your three favourite films?
The first is Léon, I really like Natalie Portman when she was a little girl, I like her hair and her coat. And Jean Reno is so lovely, he’s a killer but really loves the little girl, it’s a warm film. The second is Breakfast at Tiffany’s, I love all of Audrey Hepburn’s movies. And the third is the classic one, Titanic, I don’t think anyone doesn’t love it!
What was the last film that made you laugh?
Legend of the Dragon.
What’s your career highlight so far?
Shooting with so many wonderful photographers.
Who are your best friends in the industry and what are they like?
Qiaoran Huang and Josh, I feel we are from the same planet. They are designers but also like story tellers.
Are there any amazing new Chinese models we should be looking out for?
Tang Xiaotian, male model!
What were your favourite cartoons as a child?
The Mask!
What’s your first thought when you look in the mirror?
Oh little eyes!! hah
Do you practice facial yoga
All the time because I have so many expressions.
In a movie of your life, who would play you, who would play your love interest and what would the soundtrack be?
I wanna be a school girl. And I would like Lee Minho to play my love and the soundtrack should be Glass Candy's music.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
I hope I could in a really good movie!!
