Grace is gorge, Bol est belle! The Storm-signed Sudanese-born super grew up in Kansas City before model scouts in her local mall told her she was too high fashion for town and sent her packing to the Big Apple. Within a year, she was tearing up catwalks at Vivienne Westwood, Maison Martin Margiela and Givenchy. The trouble-making, tree-climbing tomboy is one of the few beauties bold enough to craft a career with a shaved head (flawless skin and killer bone structure help). As one of i-D’s Our Voice, Our Future cover stars, Grace is showing us new ways women can look. W, Elle and CR Fashion Book have shot her; Armani, Lanvin and Paul Smith want her to walk. SHOWstudio’s Hatstand video shows us Grace knows how to get down, Wacko Jacko style, and when she does, it’s to 2Pac, Jay-Z, Luda…and maybe a bit of country. Dance like nobody’s watching (even if the world’s eyes are on you)!
What would you be doing if you weren’t modelling?
Studying something in fashion or art.
What is your career highlight to date?
Apart from all the shows I've walked in, it is without a doubt my i-D cover! When the shoot took place with William Baker and Judy Blame we did a cover try, so I wasn't sure that it was even going to happen but what a surprise. It was amazing to see myself on the cover of i-D, big thanks and big kiss to all!
What’s your first thought when you look in the mirror?
My killer body! Sometimes I feel like I’ve got one of the best bodies in world.
What do you do for fun?
I love spending time with family and friends, working out and cooking.
What was it like growing up with twelve brothers and sisters?
It's the best thing ever because we all love each other dearly and being a part of a big family helped me to be responsible from an early age.
How do people treat you when you go back to Sudan?
The last time I went back was three years ago. I got a lot of love, not because I'm a model, simply because my family and friends hadn’t seen me since I was a child. They all ask why I'm so skinny and say things like "don't they have food over the sea?" I tell them being skinny is in fashion in some places in the world and they think I'm crazy.
Where is your favourite place in the world?
Africa because it feels good to see my family that I haven’t seen in so many years.
What is your secret obsession?
